Pre-Marital Counseling

As a Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator, I work with couples to:

  • Identify relationship strengths that will help the couple navigate life’s challenges together

  • Identify relationship growth areas

  • Develop strong communication and relationship skills that will benefit the couple in all stages of their marriage

  • Approach conversations that may feel difficult or uncomfortable to discuss during the engagement period, but that are important for cultivating trust, intimacy, and strength in the relationship as the couple enters marriage

  • Explore how family backgrounds and personalities influence relationship dynamics

  • Develop a deeper understanding of one another

“To love and to cherish…”

The most important commitment you will ever make deserves to be set up for success. The Prepare/Enrich model helps couples strengthen their relationship, both during the engagement period and the seasons of marriage that follow. With an assessment tailored to your unique relationship, you can enter marriage with a deeper understanding of one another and your relationship’s needs.

How Does Pre-Marital Counseling Work?

Finding the right therapist to support you as a couple during your engagement can be a process. I am happy to provide a complimentary 15-minute consultation to see if I would be a good fit for you. Please contact me via phone, email, or the contact page on my website to schedule a consultation.

Prior to our first meeting, I will provide you with a Prepare/Enrich relationship assessment, which will highlight your relationship strengths, areas for relationship growth, and unique relationship dynamics. Prepare/Enrich is the leading assessment tool for pre-marital couples and is uniquely tailored to your relationship.

After you complete your assessment, we will meet to discuss your relationship history and begin discussing your assessment results.

We will meet for 6-8 sessions (depending on your relationship needs and results of your assessment) to explore your assessment results in depth, identify relationship skills you can be practicing at home to strengthen your relationship, and identify strengths and growth areas. Using your assessment results, we will explore important topics that will benefit your relationship as you prepare for marriage (personality dynamics, finances, relationship expectations, family backgrounds, etc.)

After we have completed our 6-8 sessions using the Prepare/Enrich model, you will have learned valuable information about your relationship’s strengths and growth areas and feel closer to your soon-to-be spouse. You will have navigated important topics that will be relevant to you in each stage of marriage. You will also receive a certificate of completion of the Prepare/Enrich Program.

My door is always open. If you decide you would like to do a relationship “check-up” or even more intensive couples therapy in the future, I am happy to discuss these options with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of pre-marital counseling?

Pre-Marital counseling is an excellent tool for couples who would like to develop a deeper understanding of one another, explore important relationship dynamics, and engage in important conversations about various aspects of life together prior to getting married. Pre-marital counseling usually consists of 6-8 sessions with a trained clinician/facilitator that can help the couple review results of their relationship assessment and assist in navigating the discussion of importance topics.

What is Prepare/Enrich?

Prepare/Enrich is the leading assessment for pre-marital and married couples. With over 1,200 research articles published on the assessment, it is the most widely researched couples assessment tool and has helped over 4 million couples worldwide. While the assessment can be taken on its own, couples experience powerful results when working with a Certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator to guide the exploration of the assessment results. You can learn more about the Prepare/Enrich here: https://www.prepare-enrich.com/

Is Prepare/Enrich only for engaged couples?

No! Couples at any stage of marriage can benefit from the Prepare/Enrich assessment. It functions as an excellent “check-up” tool for married couples, and is particularly helpful as a couple enters different stages of their life (becoming parents, supporting aging family members, entering retirement, etc.) Wherever you are on your journey as a couple, this assessment can help prepare you for the next stage of your relationship or enrich your relationship in it’s current stage.
