Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in my first session?
In our first session, we will spend a significant amount of time exploring your unique history and establishing your initial goals for therapy. Goal setting is an important part of our work together and ensures that the concerns that led you to seek therapy are properly addressed. The planning for therapy will also include various methods of therapy that can be used to help you achieve your goals. As we work together, we will periodically revisit these goals, review your progress, and adjust the plan as needed.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
One of the most important parts of my work is learning about who you are as a unique individual, and providing therapy in a way that truly resonates with you. My approach is typically an integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a research-supported form of trauma treatment. While all of these approaches are strongly supported by research and respected within the profession, it is important that you feel comfortable with the method of therapy you receive during our work together. Selecting a mode of therapy that will be most effective for you is a high priority in the development of your therapy goals.
