How Does Individual Therapy Work?
Finding the right therapist for your needs can be a process. I am happy to provide a complimentary 15-minute consultation to see if I would be a good fit for you. Please contact me via phone, email, or the contact page on my website to schedule a consultation.
If you decide to move forward, we will schedule an initial intake assessment. This is an opportunity for me to learn more about your current struggles and for us to develop a plan of treatment for moving forward. This session is mainly focused on learning about your unique history, and identifying changes you would like to see.
The development of a treatment plan is an important part of your therapy. Whether you are attending therapy individually or as a couple, it is important that your treatment goals are crafted according to your unique situation. We will work together to establish a plan for therapy that meets your needs.
Once we have established a plan, we will meet regularly to work toward your goals. I use an integrative approach with my clients, and will work to find treatment methods that work for you. Frequency of our meetings will be dependent on your unique concerns and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in my first session?
In our first session, we will spend a significant amount of time exploring your unique history and establishing your initial goals for therapy. Goal setting is an important part of our work together and ensures that the concerns that led you to seek therapy are properly addressed. The planning for therapy will also include various methods of therapy that can be used to help you achieve your goals. As we work together, we will periodically revisit these goals, review your progress, and adjust the plan as needed.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
One of the most important parts of my work is learning about who you are as a unique individual, and providing therapy in a way that truly resonates with you. My approach is typically an integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a research-supported form of trauma treatment. While all of these approaches are strongly supported by research and respected within the profession, it is important that you feel comfortable with the method of therapy you receive during our work together. Selecting a mode of therapy that will be most effective for you is a high priority in the development of your therapy goals.
